Obese and pre-diabetic children

Childhood insulin resistance and obesity are just the tip of the iceberg, throughout the EU.

Fatty liver disease is nowadays common also among children. Sugar and especially fructose and all its derivatives (modified starches, etc.) are the main reasons for this.

The fact is that in Finland's public health there is building such a bomb that cannot be defused if we continue to live for a few years without taking care or the situation. In addition to public health, it is about public finance, productivity and controlling the health security of children's environment.

Industry would like to make us all obese. According to a US study, overweight people eat fast food 2.7 times more than the slim ones. In addition, they get sick from the young age more often.

With poor diets, also the slim ones are in the risk group. Of the slim Yankees (which are really few), already 25% have insulin resistance, i.e. pre-diabetes.

In order to get the ship to turn, kind advice and "general education" are not enough. Many things need to be done differently:

A strict tax on sugar and junk food and correspondingly reduced taxes on healthy food.
Smaller bottle and portion sizes, as well as full marketing ban on junk food.
Training of food preparing professionals to be more health-oriented.
Maternity clinics to be made more effective training centers for families with children.
Healthier food in schools and daycare, and restrictions to leave the premises to go shopping.
One hour a week of good health education in schools.
The duty of schools to "train" the parents of obese and ADHD children (associated with poor nutrition).
School taxi services limited to only those who absolutely need them.
Exercise at school to be made joyful learning of sports techniques in groups, instead of competition.

There are ways, but do the decision-makers have guts.

Unfortunately, international sugar industry has already begun to pay "expert fees" to Finnish nutrition professors, who also express opinions accordingly.
