Osteoarthritis can be successfully managed with wise home remedies. Increasing physical activity will not stop the onset of osteoarthritis in a physically active person, but diversifying the types of activities may be beneficial.
The main root cause is an acidic diet, which is high in sugar, meat, and grains, and also promotes inflammation that accelerates osteoarthritis. Different vegetables help combat acidity, as do baking soda and Valmarin. It is recommended to consume around a kilogram per day of berries, fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, seeds, herbs, health-promoting spices, and seaweed. This helps eliminate the root cause of acidity and optimizes intestinal function and the health of the gut (including the microbiome and immunity).
Experts, such as Prof. Piippo in his books “Suomalaiset lääkekasvit” (Finnish Medicinal Plants) and “Terveyttä Mausteista” (Health from Spices), have also introduced spices and herbs that promote joint health. Ginger, frankincense, and hemp oil are also useful when used externally. Elastic band exercises are often beneficial for upper limb joint issues.
Joint care can also benefit from acupuncture, magnetic therapy, and reflexology. Conventional rounded-back sitting in a 90/90 position is a significant risk factor. Instead, a high-quality, posture-supporting, swinging two-part saddle chair should definitely be used. It does not create harmful joint pressure on the cartilage surfaces of the knees and hips (as regular sitting does). Good posture starting from the pelvis also helps take care of the joints in the upper back and neck.
I have very poor joint genes. Previous generations in my family were already quite crippled by my age (73). The insurance company excluded my knees from coverage in 2003 due to overly thin cartilage. That’s when I became aware of joint care and managed to increase the thickness of my cartilage over a 10-year period. However, in 2021, my knees swelled and became painfully problematic. Walking became difficult; the cartilage was gone. Since then, I have regularly used the aforementioned methods and can now play tennis, volleyball, and ride horses without joint pain, and my knees are no longer swollen at all.
