Preventive measures based on personal and continuous muscle training usually do not work.
By far the most efficient prevention of neck and back problems is to sit in a good standing posture, in a relaxed way and without much effort. This cannot be done in the old-fashioned and non-functional 90/90 degrees work environment.
To be able to sit in an upright and healthy position, with relaxed shoulders and neck, one needs a two-part swinging saddle chair, an electrically adjustable table, elbow pads that are attached to the table, totally loose clothing around the hips, and sufficient amount of standing and moving during the day.
This sitting work culture also strengthens the back muscles, and in the long run improves posture and loosens tense shoulders.
This is by far the most viable concept that has strong physiological and ergonomic basis.
Other methods are wishful thinking.
