Although the article praised the seats of the new electric Mercedes, these traditionally designed seats still cause two different types of sitting-related ailments:
- The backrest is almost straight and does not follow the natural curve of a healthy lordosis (approx. 50 mm deep). As a result, the joints of the lower back remain slightly open, which accelerates spinal degeneration. I have never seen anatomically optimal lower back support in any car.
- The seat cushioning presses against the soft tissues of the pelvic opening between the sit bones in the pelvic floor. This creates a pressure field inside the pelvis, which impairs tissue circulation and, of course, leads to diseases in the pelvic organs of both men and women.
Consequently, the pelvic region is statistically the unhealthiest area of the body, plagued by numerous ailments, including various cancers. A extensive study on taxi drivers in Beijing—who sit for prolonged periods—revealed double the rate of prostate cancer compared to other men in Beijing, who also sit quite a lot on average. This issue has not been widely recognized, and nothing has been done to eliminate it in any car.
The developers of the divided, swinging saddle chair have successfully eliminated both posture and pelvic health risks.
