Why Is Children’s Eyesight Deteriorating?

The main reasons for declining eyesight include deficiencies in essential nutrients such as zinc, vitamin D, lutein, and Omega-3, lack of physical activity, overuse of eyes at a single distance, and poor ergonomics.

Personally, I have avoided these risk factors and, at 73 years old, still have no need for glasses while continuing to work full-time in a screen-heavy environment. I also use a beneficial antioxidant called zeaxanthin to support eye health.

When children constantly look down at their phones, pressure builds inside the eye, impairing microfluid circulation. Additionally, the tension in the neck, throat, and shoulders in this posture reduces blood flow to the head, including the eyes.

Children should absolutely use adjustable rocking saddle chairs with a center gap and height-adjustable desks to maintain good posture during homework and internet browsing. These activities should ideally be done on desktop computers instead of phones.

The increasingly sedentary lifestyle, which impairs fluid circulation in the head, combined with other factors and prolonged near-focus activities, is severely compromising the eye health of an entire generation.
